🤩🎤 Hold onto your speaking hats because it's time for none other than Public Speaking!!! 🎤🤩   Brought to you by the fantastic Mary White SFK Representative Team, this event is all about unleashing your verbal prowess through prepared and impromptu speech.   💚 Who: All On-Campus UNE Students ⏰ When: Monday 30th March, 6pm - 📍 Where: The Bistro, UNE 🍕 Free Food Available 🍻 Bistro Bar Open for Service   Feel the adrenaline as each team throws their best contender into the ring, abiding by the following rules. 👉 Prepared speakers will be given a set list of topics and will need to choose one of these topics to base their speech around. 👉 Prepared speakers should aim to speak for 5 minutes with warning bells at 4, 4.5, & 5 minutes. 👉 Impromptu speakers will each be given their topic on the night with 1 minute of preparation time. 👉 Impromptu speakers should aim to speak for 2 minutes, with warning bells at 1.5, 2, & 2.5 minutes.   Every speech will then be judged on the following categories: ✅ 20% Speech Development (Structure, Organisation, Support Material) ✅ 15% Effectiveness (Achieved Purpose, Interest, Reception) ✅15% Speech Value (Ideas, Logic, Original Thought) ✅ 10% Physical (Appearance, Body Language) ✅ 10% Voice (Flexibility, Volume) ✅ 10% Manner (Directness, Assurance, Enthusiasm) ✅ 10% Appropriateness (To speech purpose & audience) ✅ 10% Correctness (Grammar, Pronunciation, Word Selection)   For further information, reach out to clubsandsocieties@une.edu.au.

If you have woken to the sound of birds singing early in the morning, you have experienced a phenomenon known as the ‘dawn chorus’. But why do birds do this and when did it originate? I conducted a literature review to try and find a likely origin of the behaviour by looking at research defining the dawn chorus, the prevalence among extant bird lineages, and the anatomically relevant syrinx along with its evolution. Did birds start singing at dawn more recently, or did non-avian dinosaurs also call in the early mornings of the Mesozoic? What is planned A walk down to Wrights lookout and along the cascades track. See fantastic views off the escarpment to the coast and walk along a rainforest creek under beech trees with numerous small waterfalls. Option for swimming. For those botanically inclined this is an opportunity to see Neoastelia spectabilis a species endemic to new England national park.   While these are along constructed national park walking tracks the cascades track in particular is somewhat rough and has significant slip hazards from wet rocks   For tickets & more details visit The UNE Outdoor Adventure Club on TidyHQ!

This is a Bonus Seminar aimed for our first year students beginning their Geoscience journey at UNE! Rory MacKett completed his Bachelor of Geoscience at UNE, and is now near completion of his Honours degree. Join him in the Geology lab for "An informal talk regarding my experiences studying geoscience at UNE and working as a early career geologist.
